Transform Your Musical Journey

About
Blue House Studio

Hi, My name is Kathleen Hanson. I have been a pianist, choral instructor, and professional vocalist for 40 years. At Blue House Studio I am passionate about sharing my love of music. I teach with a steady, thoughtful, comprehensive and kind approach. I live with my husband, a percussionist, and two dogs, Sochi, an aging golden retriever, & Bingley, a middle-aged herding dog mix. On lesson days they are usually relaxing behind closed doors. We all welcome you to our home, “Blue House Studio!”

My Teaching Philosophy

Music is a magical, lifelong journey. Once you reach a certain level with your instrument, it becomes a trusted companion. Being a musician is like exploring a house full of endless, fascinating rooms—each one offering something new. Music connects us, sharpens the brain, and builds lasting friendships.

I started Blue House Studio to share the joy and skills I’ve been fortunate to learn. I teach with consistency, kindness, and a strong focus on fundamentals, technique, and expression. I tailor each lesson to the student, helping them feel supported and engaged.

Success comes from regular practice, a supportive environment, and exposure to music in the community. Families can help by creating a quiet practice space and sticking to a routine.

Consistent lessons and practice build confidence and make learning fun. Many students give up too soon simply from lack of practice, but those who stick with it find music rewarding at every level.

As Shakespeare said, “If music be the food of love, play on!” I hope to inspire that love in every student—and yes, sometimes with a cookie or two!
